Pimba

Pimba is a Portuguese popular music style built on simple, catchy songs, danceable rhythms and lyrics full of double meanings and sexual innuendo. Played at village festivals, weddings and student parties across Portugal and its diaspora, it mixes folk instrumentation โ above all the accordion and concertina โ with keyboards and drum machines, and favours direct choruses over sophistication. Long dismissed by critics as vulgar, it is among the country's most commercially durable popular forms. *Quim Barreiros* is its defining performer, and *Emanuel*'s 1995 song "Pimba Pimba" gave the genre its name.
