Piseiro

Piseiro is a Brazilian popular genre from the Northeast, a streamlined descendant of forró built for paredão sound-system parties and São João festivals. Where forró bands used accordion, zabumba and triangle, piseiro reduces the arrangement to an electronic keyboard playing the accordion's role, programmed drums, bass and a front singer, at tempos made for the stomping pisadinha dance. Popularised nationally by *Os Barões da Pisadinha* and by *João Gomes*, whose "Eu Tenho a Senha" was Brazil's most-streamed album of 2021, it sings of vaquejada, small-town romance and rural pride.
