PluggnB

PluggnB is a subgenre of hip hop that fuses plugg production with contemporary R&B. Where plugg — the airy, melodic trap style built by Atlanta's BeatPluggz producers in the mid-2010s — supplied light synth pads, bouncy 808s and video-game-like arpeggios, pluggnB slows the result into dreamy, romantic songs: lush R&B chord voicings, gospel-tinged harmonies and crooned or half-sung vocals over the plugg drum palette. Developed in underground SoundCloud scenes from about 2017 by the Slayworld collective and producers such as Cashcache and XanGang, it became a defining sound of internet rap in the early 2020s.
