Polish Folk Music

Polish folk music is the regional traditional music of Poland: the triple-meter mazurkas, obereks and kujawiaks of Mazovia, the fiddle-driven g贸rale music of the Podhale mountains, Kurpie and Silesian song, and Kashubian traditions, played by village kapela bands of violins, clarinet, accordion, bass and drums. Singing uses the piercing open-throated bia艂y g艂os ("white voice") developed to carry across fields. After 1949 the state ensembles *Mazowsze* and *艢l膮sk* arranged this repertoire for large stage troupes, while later revivalists such as *Warsaw Village Band* returned to village sources with punk-like force.
