Polka paraguaya

Polka paraguaya

Polka paraguaya is the national dance music of Paraguay, a distinctive descendant of the European polka rebuilt on a characteristic 6/8 meter whose melody and bass move in a hemiola relationship unlike any other American polka. Played by ensembles of Spanish guitar, requinto and the Paraguayan harp, and sung in Spanish and Guaraní, it divides into variants including the lively polca canción, the galloping galopa and the slower kyre'ỹ, and stands beside the guarania as the core of Paraguayan folk identity.
