Porn Groove

Porn groove is the funk idiom associated with 1970s adult film soundtracks, a largely instrumental style built for scenes rather than songs. Wah-wah guitar, slapped and popping bass, tight drums, Rhodes piano and discreet strings or horns move in short, repetitive vamps that sustain a languid, suggestive momentum without demanding attention. Much of it was library music or the work of session players and jazz-funk arrangers moonlighting on low-budget productions, and the style survived its era as a crate-digger category, revived by compilations that treat the anonymous soundtracks as a lost school of funk.
