Progressive Metalcore

Progressive Metalcore

Progressive metalcore is a fusion of metalcore with the expanded formal and technical ambitions of progressive metal, developed principally in North America and Australia during the 2000s and 2010s. Bands such as *Misery Signals*, *Erra* and *Northlane* combine hardcore breakdowns and screamed vocals with odd time signatures, polyrhythmic djent-derived riffing, ambient guitar textures and extended song structures that move between passages of aggression and melodic release. Clean singing and electronic elements are common, and lyrics frequently address philosophical or existential subjects. The style overlaps with djent and melodic metalcore, but is distinguished by its emphasis on compositional development over immediacy.
