Progressive Psytrance

Progressive Psytrance

Progressive psytrance (prog psy, psygressive) is the slower, groovier branch of psytrance that emerged in the mid-2000s as a reaction against the intensity of full-on. Running at roughly 132 to 140 BPM, it replaces psytrance's dense sixteenth-note bass with deep, rolling, often triplet or offbeat basslines, long linear arrangements and sparse psychedelic effects, drawing on progressive house and minimal techno. Denmark's #Iboga Records# and producers such as *Ace Ventura*, *Liquid Soul* and *Captain Hook* made it the dominant sound of the big open-air festivals, while a German minimal wing around *Neelix* carried it to mainstream-adjacent audiences.
