Progressive Trance

Progressive trance is a melodic, long-form branch of trance that emerged in Western Europe in the early 1990s, fusing trance with progressive house. Where uplifting trance drives toward anthemic peaks, progressive trance builds gradually: rolling basslines, layered arpeggios and atmospheric pads unfold over tracks that often exceed seven minutes, with tension released in slow, euphoric swells rather than sudden drops. *BT*'s "Ima" and *Sasha* and *John Digweed*'s mix "Northern Exposure" defined the template, and labels such as #Platipus# and #Hooj Choons# carried it to a global club audience at the turn of the millennium.
