Psychedelic Black Metal

Psychedelic black metal is a branch of black metal that absorbs the techniques of psychedelic and space rock: extended repetitive structures, analog synthesisers, effects-saturated guitars and cosmic or ritual subject matter replace the genre's usual brevity and violence. Acts such as *Oranssi Pazuzu*, *Nachtmystium* and *Darkspace* keep black metal's tremolo picking, blast beats and shrieked vocals but stretch them into long, trance-inducing compositions, often built on a single riff or drone. The result treats black metal as a vehicle for altered states rather than aggression alone.
