Psychedelic Doom Metal

Psychedelic doom metal is a subgenre of doom metal in which the slow, heavily downtuned riffing and funereal tempos of doom are opened up by the effects, repetition and cosmic imagery of psychedelic rock. Guitarists favour fuzz, phaser and delay-drenched tones, extended jam-like passages and drones, while vocals are often distant, chanted or treated as another instrument. Emerging from the stoner-doom underground of the 1990s and flowering in the 2000s and 2010s through acts such as *Electric Wizard*, *Ufomammut* and *Windhand*, the style privileges atmosphere and altered-state immersion over conventional song structure, with lyrics drawn to occultism, space, ritual and inner voyages.
