Rap Metal

Rap metal emerged in the late 1980s, fusing the sonic frameworks of thrash metal and hard rock with the vocal cadences and rhythmic sensibilities of hip hop. The genre is defined by a dense texture of heavily distorted, riff-oriented guitars and aggressive drumming, layered with rapped verses and often incorporating turntablism. Its ethos frequently channels social and political discontent, inherited from both hardcore punk and conscious hip hop. This synthesis produced a commercially significant force within the 1990s alternative metal movement, shaping the trajectory of rock music by bridging stylistic and cultural divides before being largely absorbed into the subsequent nu metal wave.
