Reggae Fusion

Reggae fusion is the hybrid form that results when reggae or dancehall rhythms are combined with pop, rock, R&B, hip hop or electronic dance music in a single recording. Typically it keeps the offbeat skank, one-drop or dancehall drum pattern and a bass-led mix, while importing the verse-chorus structures, hooks and production of the partner genre. Developed from the 1980s as Jamaican music sought international radio, it produced some of reggae's biggest global hits of the 1990s and 2000s and remains the default meeting point between Jamaican rhythm and the mainstream charts.
