Retro-Prog

Retro-prog is the strand of modern progressive rock that deliberately recreates the sound, instruments and compositional language of the genre's 1969-74 golden age, rather than updating it with metal, pop or electronic elements. Its bands — Sweden's *Änglagård* and Norway's *Wobbler* foremost — record with Mellotron, Hammond organ, Moog and Rickenbacker bass, write long multi-part suites in shifting metres, and treat period fidelity as an aesthetic end in itself. The term distinguishes these revivalists from both the 1980s neo-prog generation and contemporary post-progressive experimenters.
