Retro Soul

Retro soul is a twenty-first-century revival of the classic soul and rhythm and blues of the 1960s and early 1970s, recorded with period methods: live bands, analogue tape, vintage microphones and horn and string arrangements modelled on #Motown#, #Stax# and independent Southern soul. *Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings* and the #Daptone# label established its template in New York, *Charles Bradley* and *Lee Fields* supplied elder voices, and performers such as *Amy Winehouse*, *Raphael Saadiq*, *Leon Bridges* and *Black Pumas* carried the approach to mainstream audiences.
