Rumba cubana

Rumba cubana is an Afro-Cuban secular music and dance tradition built entirely on percussion, voice and dance, developed in the port cities of Havana and Matanzas in the late nineteenth century. Its three principal forms, yamb煤, guaguanc贸 and columbia, combine conga drums, cat谩, caj贸n, claves and call-and-response singing in Spanish with Abaku谩 and Congo-derived vocabulary. Groups such as *Los Mu帽equitos de Matanzas* and *Los Papines* documented the tradition on records including "Rumba Caliente", while rumba's rhythms fed directly into son, salsa and Latin jazz. In 2016 UNESCO inscribed Cuban rumba as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
