Salsa

Salsa is a popular dance music that arose in New York City during the 1960s, when Cuban and Puerto Rican musicians fused the Cuban son montuno, guaracha, chachach谩, mambo and, to a degree, bolero with jazz harmony and big-band brass. Built on clave patterns and call-and-response coro sections behind an improvising sonero, it became the sound of the Latino barrio and, through #Fania Records#, of a worldwide dance culture. Singers such as *H茅ctor Lavoe* and *Celia Cruz* and bandleaders including *Willie Col贸n*, *Eddie Palmieri* and *Ray Barretto* made it the dominant Latin dance genre of the 1970s.
