Sambass

Sambass is the Brazilian style of drum and bass that fuses the genre's breakbeat propulsion with samba, bossa nova and other Brazilian forms. Created in São Paulo in the late 1990s and named by joining 'samba' to 'bass', it replaces drum and bass's darker textures with acoustic guitar, Portuguese-language vocals, cuíca and berimbau samples and sunlit harmony. *DJ Marky* and *XRS* carried the style worldwide with "LK" (2002) and the album "In Rotation" (2004), and the #Cuadra# label's *Sambass* compilation series documented the wider scene of *DJ Patife*, *Drumagick* and *Fernanda Porto*.
