Sephardic Music

Sephardic music is the musical tradition of the Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain in 1492, who carried their Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) language and Iberian song into the Ottoman Empire, North Africa, and the Americas. Its core repertoire of romances, wedding songs, and liturgical pieces blends Spanish melodic inheritance with Turkish makam, Greek, and Moroccan influences absorbed over five centuries of diaspora. Revivalists and early-music ensembles, among them *Flory Jagoda*, *Yasmin Levy*, and *Jordi Savall*'s *Hesp猫rion XXI*, have returned the repertoire to concert halls and recordings since the 1970s.
