Sequencer & Tracker

Sequencer and tracker music is music composed in tracker software, the pattern-based sequencers that began with *Karsten Obarski*'s Ultimate Soundtracker for the Commodore Amiga in 1987. Working in vertical columns of hexadecimal notation, musicians squeeze melody, harmony and rhythm from a handful of sampled channels, a discipline born in the demoscene and in video game soundtracks for home computers and consoles. Composers such as *Purple Motion*, *Skaven* and *Lizardking* made the format an art form, while game composers including *Nobuo Uematsu* and *Koji Kondo* worked in closely related sequenced formats.
