Shamanic Ambient

Shamanic Ambient

Shamanic ambient is a branch of tribal ambient built to accompany inner journeying: long-form electronic soundscapes anchored by the shaman's drum. Frame drums, rattles, didgeridoo, flutes and overtone chanting are fused with synthesiser drones and sequenced pulses, holding a steady, trance-inducing tempo modelled on the rhythmic driving used in shamanic practice to alter consciousness. Pioneered by *Steve Roach* and percussionist *Byron Metcalf*, the style functions less as concert music than as a sonic technology for meditation, breathwork and therapeutic ritual, its tracks unfolding as continuous ceremonies rather than songs.
