Skinhead Reggae

Skinhead reggae is the early Jamaican reggae of 1968 to 1970 as embraced by Britain's working-class skinhead subculture: heavy organ lines, chopping piano, pounding bass and chanted choruses made for dancing in boots. Trojan Records compilations like "Tighten Up Vol. 2" packaged hits by *Symarip*, *Desmond Dekker* and *The Upsetters* for that market, and *Symarip*'s "Skinhead Moonstomp" addressed the audience directly. The records became an unlikely bridge between Jamaican immigrants and white British youth, and a permanent part of ska and Oi! ancestry.
