South Side Chicago Blues

South Side Chicago Blues

South Side Chicago blues is the classic electric blues forged in the clubs of Chicago's South Side from the late 1940s: amplified harmonica, electric guitars, piano and drums playing hard-driving shuffles behind singers who had carried Delta and Memphis blues north in the Great Migration. Centred on #Chess Records# and on clubs such as *Theresa's Lounge*, it is the sound of *Muddy Waters*, *Howlin' Wolf*, *Little Walter* and *Junior Wells* — a working band music of stop-time breaks, call-and-response and raw volume, and the direct foundation of British blues rock and much of rock and roll.
