Southeastern Brazilian Music

Southeastern Brazilian music names the intertwined traditions of Brazil's Southeast, S茫o Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and Esp铆rito Santo: the samba schools and partido-alto of Rio, the sophisticated songwriting of Minas Gerais' Clube da Esquina, and S茫o Paulo's samba and caipira roots music. It produced *Cartola* and *Paulinho da Viola* in samba, *Milton Nascimento* and *L么 Borges* in Minas, and generations of MPB built on this regional triangle. As a registry category it gathers the recorded output of the region that has dominated Brazilian popular music since the radio era.
