Space Music

Space music is a melodic strain of new age and ambient music organized around cosmic imagery: stars, planets, deep space, and the inner experience of vastness. Where space ambient tends toward beatless austerity, space music keeps lyrical synthesizer melodies, slow arpeggios, and a sense of uplift, as in *Constance Demby*'s "Novus Magnificat" and *Michael Stearns*'s "Planetary Unfolding". Stephen Hill's #Hearts of Space# radio program, broadcasting since 1983, gave the style its name and its principal outlet, and planetarium shows remain a natural home for its practitioners.
