Stomp and Holler

Stomp and holler is a style of folk-pop that became commercially prominent between roughly 2009 and 2014, built from the instrumentation of folk and Americana — banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar, kick drum — amplified to arena scale. Its songs favour simple, anthemic choruses, handclaps, foot stomps and shouted group refrains of 'hey' and 'ho', with earnest lyrics about youth, home and travel. Acts such as *Mumford & Sons*, *The Lumineers* and *Of Monsters and Men* took the style to the top of international charts before its formula became a critical byword.
