Street Punk

Street punk is a subgenre of punk rock that emerged from the British Oi! movement in the late 1970s and early 1980s, merging its working-class ethos and anthemic group vocals with the raw velocity of hardcore. The style is defined by aggressive, distorted guitar riffs, driving and often D-beat-influenced drumming, and accessible, politically-charged songwriting. Vocally, it contrasts coarse lead deliveries with powerful, singalong choruses intended for audience participation. While rooted in a specific socio-political context, the genre's emphasis on melodic hooks and high-energy performance allowed it to achieve wider, albeit still underground, dissemination globally throughout the 1990s.
