Stutter House

Stutter House

Stutter house is a subgenre of house music defined by its central production device: the stutter edit, in which a vocal, synth or pad sample is chopped into rapid rhythmic fragments and repeated as the hook, drop or melodic lead over a four-on-the-floor pulse around 120 to 130 BPM. The term was coined around 2022 by playlist curator *Steve Cardigan* for a playlist-centred sound associated with *Fred again..*, *BUNT.* and *Lavern*, and spread through TikTok and streaming playlists. Combining the emotional, sample-diary aesthetic of melodic house with garage-influenced vocal chopping, it became one of the defining electronic pop styles of the mid-2020s.
