Tarraxinha

Tarraxinha

Tarraxinha is a slow, sensual electronic dance music from Angola, built by slowing kizomba down still further into a minimal, bass-heavy shuffle of skeletal beats, deep kicks, syncopated percussion, siren effects and sparse synth fragments, usually produced in FL Studio and often entirely instrumental. Its name derives from the Portuguese verb atarraxar, to screw, and refers to the tarraxa, the close pelvic-grinding dance performed to it, in deliberate contrast to kizomba's ballroom formality. *DJ Znobia* of Luanda, drawing on the slow shuffle of Benguela, is credited as the style's principal inventor in the late 1990s and 2000s.
