Technical Black Metal

Technical Black Metal

Technical black metal applies the precision and compositional complexity of technical death metal and progressive music to black metal's tremolo-picked guitars, blast beats and shrieked vocals. Songs favour dissonant chord voicings, abrupt meter changes, stop-start riffing and long, through-composed structures over the hypnotic repetition of traditional black metal, while production is typically clear enough for individual lines to remain audible. The style consolidated in France and Norway during the 2000s around *Deathspell Omega* and *Blut Aus Nord*, whose theological and industrial-tinged records set its intellectual tone, and it remains an album-oriented underground current.
