Tecnofunk

Tecnofunk is a Brazilian electronic dance music from the state of Pará, formed where São Paulo and Rio funk carioca met tecnomelody, the fast, keyboard-driven pop of the northern Amazon. Played at the vast aparelhagem sound-system parties of Belém, it runs faster and more frenetic than its parent styles, driven by drum machines, synthesizer riffs and shouted MC chants, and is danced with the rapid shoulder-shaking treme that also gives *Gaby Amarantos*'s breakthrough album its name. It is the dancefloor engine of Pará's party culture and one of its defining local sounds.
