Television Music

Television music comprises the themes, title sequences and dramatic scores composed for television programmes. From the 1950s, composers such as *Henry Mancini* gave series distinctive musical identities, and themes like Mancini's "Peter Gunn" became hit records in their own right. The craft spans jazz combos, studio orchestras and, increasingly, electronic and full symphonic scoring; signature themes by *Lalo Schifrin*, *Angelo Badalamenti* and *Ron Grainer* are among the most widely recognised melodies in modern music, while contemporary prestige drama has elevated the television score into a major compositional field.
