Texas Country

Texas country is the singer-songwriter-driven country music of Texas, rooted in honky tonk and outlaw country and defined by its independence from Nashville. Centred on dance halls, college towns and the Austin to New Braunfels corridor, it favours fiddle-and-steel arrangements, plainspoken writing about Texas places and working lives, and a touring economy built on regional radio and relentless live work. *Robert Earl Keen*, *Pat Green* and the *Randy Rogers Band* carried the sound from campus cult status to national charts in the 2000s while keeping its Texas-first identity, in close exchange with Oklahoma's red dirt scene.
