Thall

Thall

A strain of progressive metal derived from djent, developed in Sweden in the early 2010s and named from the percussive guitar sound its founders sought to imitate in language. Thall is defined by extremely low-tuned guitars played with rapid pitch-bend releases, abrupt muting and wide interval leaps, set against sparse ambient passages of clean guitar and electronics. Rhythms are elastic and frequently arrhythmic in effect, with riffs treated as sequences of discrete attacks rather than continuous lines. Vocals range from harsh screams to subdued singing, and production favors a dry, mechanical precision that separates thall from the denser layering typical of djent.
