Tonada Chilena

Tonada Chilena

The tonada chilena is Chile's emblematic folk song form: a lilting, guitar-led song in the voice of the huaso, the Chilean countryman, celebrating landscape, love and rural life to accompaniment by harp, guitar and guitarr贸n. Quartets like *Los Cuatro Huasos* and *Los Huasos Quincheros* carried it from the salons to radio and records in the twentieth century, while *Violeta Parra* collected and reshaped the repertoire on "Las 脷ltimas Composiciones". It remains the ceremonial sound of the Fiestas Patrias each September.
