Tradi-moderne ivoirien

Tradi-moderne ivoirien is the Ivorian approach, developed from the 1950s to the 1970s, of rebuilding local traditional music with modern band instruments and imported popular styles. Singers and guitar-led orchestras from the country's many ethnic traditions, above all B茅t茅, Baoul茅 and Guro repertories, fused village rhythms and praise poetry with Ghanaian highlife, Congolese rumba, soul and funk. Its emblematic creation is ziglibithy, the B茅t茅 dance modernised by *Ernesto Dj茅dj茅*, but the term covers the whole generation of Ivorian bandleaders who gave the young nation a modern sound of its own before zouglou and coup茅-d茅cal茅.
