Trance 2.0

'Trance 2.0' is the term promoted by the label #Anjunabeats# in the early 2010s for a festival-scale evolution of trance: the genre's melodic breakdowns, supersaw leads and emotive vocals combined with the bass weight, drops and shorter structures of big-room and electro house. Centred on *Above & Beyond* and their label's roster, including *Andrew Bayer*, *Ilan Bluestone* and *Arty*, it traded the long journeys of classic uplifting trance for immediate, song-led impact at around 128-132 BPM. The label was always partly a marketing banner rather than a scene name, but it usefully marks trance's EDM-era mainstream form.
