Trancestep

Trancestep

Trancestep, also called trance and bass, is a strand of drum and bass that fuses the genre's breakbeat velocity with the euphoric synthesizer leads, arpeggios and breakdowns of trance. It crystallised in the United Kingdom and New Zealand around 2001-02, when *John B*'s "Trance & Bass" mix and the productions of *Concord Dawn* and *Muffler* replaced darkstep menace with melodic uplift at 170 BPM and above. A second wave after 2011, led by *Seven Lions*, carried the same fusion into the dubstep era, wedding trance supersaws to half-time drops.
