Trap-Folk

Trap-folk is the Balkan fusion of American trap with folk singing and folk melody, documented by Serbian ethnomusicologists as the dominant direction of the region's mainstream after 2010. Trap beats, Auto-Tune and rap boasts are combined with the melismatic 'folk voice', accordion and brass colouring and the themes of pop-folk, producing club music that speaks simultaneously of Atlanta and the Balkans. Early landmarks came from folk-rap crossovers by *Elitni Odredi* and *Rasta*; the style peaked commercially in the collaboration of *Maya Berović* with Bosnian duo *Jala Brat* and *Buba Corelli*, and now shapes a generation led by *Nucci* and *Voyage*.
