Trap Metal

Trap metal is a fusion of trap rap and extreme metal that emerged in the mid-2010s, pairing the 808s, hi-hats and structures of trap with the vocal violence and distortion of metal and hardcore. Its performers scream, growl and rasp over beats that are clipped, bass-boosted and deliberately overdriven, and its imagery draws on horror, anime and internet culture rather than on conventional rap luxury. Closely related to the SoundCloud rap underground, the style was carried to prominence by *City Morgue*, *Ghostemane*, *Scarlxrd* and *XXXTENTACION*'s heaviest recordings.
