Tribal House

Tribal House

Tribal house is a form of house music built around dense, syncopated hand-drum percussion — congas, bongos, djembes, timbales and shakers — layered over a four-on-the-floor kick, with minimal melody and long, hypnotic arrangements aimed at peak-time dancefloors. Emerging from New York and New Jersey club culture in the early 1990s and codified by DJs such as *Danny Tenaglia* and *Junior Vasquez*, it absorbed Latin and Afro-Cuban drumming traditions into electronic production. A second international wave in the 2000s, led by Iberian producers *Chus & Ceballos* and the #Stereo Productions# label, gave the style a polished, drum-orchestra sound that dominated large-room clubbing.
