Tropicanibalismo
Tropicanibalismo is an experimental movement from Bogot谩 that subjects Colombia's Caribbean coastal music, principally cumbia, vallenato, salsa and champeta, to electronic processing, dissonance and deliberate anachronism. Formed in university circles around *Ensamble Polif贸nico Vallenato*, its practitioners, among them *Frente Cumbiero*, *Meridian Brothers* and *Los Pira帽as*, rebuild coastal formats such as the vallenato ensemble, the gaita group and the salsa orchestra with synthesizers, drum machines, electric guitar and studio manipulation. The results range from near-traditional acoustic readings to harsh electronic experiments, frequently instrumental, or carrying lyrics that restage the conventions of tropical song with sarcasm directed at contemporary Colombian life.
