Trova yucateca

Trova yucateca is the romantic song tradition of Mexico's Yucat谩n Peninsula, centred on M茅rida and sung to guitar-led ensembles of requinto, guitar and bass, often in trio format. Shaped by Cuban bolero and habanera, Spanish song and local Mayan and mestizo culture, its songs set finely wrought love poetry by Yucatecan poets to elegant, harmonically rich melodies. The tradition took form in the late nineteenth century and reached its classic age between the 1910s and 1930s with composer-troubadours *Guty C谩rdenas*, *Ricardo Palmer铆n* and *Pepe Dom铆nguez*, remaining the emblematic music of Yucat谩n identity.
