Truck Driving Country

Truck driving country is a thematic subgenre of country music devoted entirely to the long-haul driver's life: diesel rigs, highways, truck stops, CB radio, loneliness and the pull of home. Musically it draws on honky tonk and the Bakersfield sound, with twanging electric guitars, fiddle and a steady, road-rolling beat, and it favours story songs and spoken recitations. *Dave Dudley*'s 1963 hit "Six Days on the Road" founded the style, and *Red Sovine*, *Dick Curless* and *Red Simpson* made it a chart staple through the 1960s and the CB craze of the 1970s.
