Turkish Folk Music (Türk Halk Müziği)

Turkish folk music (türk halk müziği) is the regional traditional music of Turkey, built around the bağlama family of long-necked lutes and a repertory of türküs — folk songs in regional dialects — alongside dance tunes (oyun havaları) in asymmetric aksak meters. Its masters include the blind âşık *Âşık Veysel*, the Central Anatolian bozlak singer *Neşet Ertaş* and bağlama virtuosi *Arif Sağ* and *Musa Eroğlu*. Collected and broadcast by state radio from the republican era onward, the tradition spans Alevi ritual song, Black Sea kemençe music and the laments of the southeast.
