Twerk

Twerk is a style of electronic dance music that crystallised in 2012-2013 when EDM producers absorbed New Orleans bounce and Miami bass into festival trap. Built at roughly 100-110 BPM — slower than trap proper — it runs on bounce's call-and-response chants, trunk-rattling 808 bass and brass-like synth stabs, arranged for the dance the genre is named after. *Diplo*'s "Express Yourself", made with bounce singer *Nicky Da B*, was the template record, and *DJ Snake* and *Lil Jon*'s "Turn Down for What" carried the sound to the top of the charts before it folded back into trap and bounce.
