UK Drill

UK Drill

UK drill is a British form of drill music that developed in London from about 2012, adapting Chicago drill and British road rap to local conditions. Its beats, typically around 140 BPM in a half-time feel, are built on sliding 808 basslines, sparse minor-key melodies and swung, off-grid hi-hats, and its MCs deliver in London accents with flows that ride across the bar line. Crews such as *67* and *Harlem Spartans* established the style on video platforms, and by the end of the 2010s *Headie One*, *Digga D* and *Central Cee* had taken it to the top of the UK charts.
