UK Dub

UK Dub is the British development of Jamaican dub, built from the late 1970s by London sound systems and an independent label network. Where Jamaican dub grew from the mixing desk, its British counterpart favors the steppers rhythm — a relentless four-to-the-floor kick — with heavier bass weight, faster tempos and colder electronic textures. Producers such as *Jah Shaka*, *Mad Professor* and *Alpha & Omega* made the studio and the sound system a single circuit, pressing dubplates and LPs for dances. The style seeded British electronic music, feeding jungle, dubstep and UK garage.
