UK Rap

UK rap is British hip hop: rap music made in the United Kingdom, distinguished by local accents, slang and subject matter drawn from British inner-city life. From *London Posse* and *Roots Manuva* through *Skinnyman* to *Dave* and *Little Simz*, its production has absorbed jungle, garage, grime and drill without surrendering a separate identity built on lyricism and storytelling. Where grime is defined by tempo and electronic minimalism, UK rap works at hip hop tempos with sample-based or live-sounding beats, and its narratives — council estates, migration, faith, ambition — are specifically British. It is the umbrella under which British MC culture outside the grime and drill subgenres is usually filed.
