V-Pop

V-Pop is Vietnamese popular music, the commercial mainstream of Vietnam's recording industry, sung in Vietnamese and produced in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Its modern form took shape in the 1990s and 2000s with the ballad-led market of singers such as *Mỹ Tâm*, and diversified in the 2010s into electronic pop, R&B and Vietnamese rap through *SÆ¡n Tùng M-TP*, *Hoà ng Thùy Linh*, *BÃch Phương* and the Rap Việt generation. Production follows international pop models, including K-pop's emphasis on choreography and visual presentation, while lyrics and, in Linh's work, samples of folk forms keep a distinctly Vietnamese identity.
